Ted McCormick

Concordia University in Montreal

Ted McCormick is Professor of History and Fellow in the School of Irish Studies at Concordia University in Montreal; from July 2025, he will be Isobel Haldane Professor of British History at the University of Pennsylvania. He is the author of William Petty and the Ambitions of Political Arithmetic (Oxford University Press, 2009) and Human Empire: Mobility and Demographic Thought in the British Atlantic World, 1500-1800 (Cambridge University Press, 2022), each of which won the John Ben Snow Prize, and co-editor of special issues on scientific and economic “projecting” in Early Science and Medicine (2016) and the Journal for the History of Knowledge (forthcoming in 2025). His current research looks at technological projects and ideas of labor in the late seventeenth- and early eighteenth-century British world.
